2025

The following researcher received the first-ever $150,000 ACPMP Changemaker Grant:

Michael Foote, MD.: Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center

Project Title: Targeting the Surface Proteome of Appendiceal Cancer Peritoneal Metastasis

Non-confidential summary: This promising research will use state-of-the-art proteomics technology to define surface proteins specific to appendix cancer metastases and then expediently design targeted therapies using these proteins to deliver drugs directly to tumors, avoiding toxicity to healthy tissue.

The ACPMP Changemaker Grant Program was created to support high-impact scientific, clinical, and translational research with the highest potential to ultimately impact patients, or to change what we know about appendix cancer and PMP, providing answers about this rare disease that will help advance treatments for patients.

The following researcher received a $100,000 Lisa Kurtz Luciano Appendix Cancer and PMP Clinical Investigator Award (CIA) funded by The Appendix Cancer PMP Research Foundation and administered by the Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO):

2025 Awardee: Oliver Eng, MD, University of California, Irvine for his research titled “Metabolic Therapy for Pseudomyxoma Peritonei.”

The following researcher received a $25,000 Young Investigator Award funded by The Appendix Cancer PMP Research Foundation and administered by the Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO):

2025 Awardee: Kimberly Kopecky, MD, MSCI, University of Alabama at Birmingham for her research proposal, “Aligning Pre-Operative Expectations with Postoperative Recovery for Patients Considering CRS/HIPEC: A Mixed Methods Intervention Development Study.”

As part of this research, she’s inviting appendix cancer patients and caregivers to share their experiences before and after surgery. Your feedback will help healthcare professionals better understand those experiences and directly shape future efforts to improve care, communication, and support throughout the CRS/HIPEC journey.
Only takes about 10–12 minutes or less. Take the survey: https://uab.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_bI6vxRVASwl3pL8

Additionally, ACPMP funded 8 $1,000 travel awards for recipients to attend the SSO ACT Conference and present their research, covering diverse areas of inquiry to drive new approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of appendix cancer
