• Why Light-Up Amber?

    The objective of this campaign is to shine a light on this rare but increasingly prevalent cancer by illuminating landmarks nationwide and beyond. There are often only vague or sometimes even no symptoms of appendiceal cancer. And when there are symptoms, they are often missed or misdiagnosed as they frequently mimic those of hernias, ovarian or uterine masses, Crohn’s or other GI diseases, or are so vague that they are repeatedly dismissed.   • What is Appendix Cancer Awareness Month?

    August is recognized as the official Appendix Cancer Awareness Month to increase awareness of this rare cancer and the need for MORE research to discover new treatments with the hope of one day finding a cure. The Appendix Cancer PMP Research Foundation (ACPMP) was established in 2008 to fund research and education to improve the diagnosis and treatment of appendix cancer. As part of our educational efforts, ACPMP is excited to promote August as the official awareness month for appendix cancer. Along with establishing amber as the official ribbon color for appendix cancer, having an established awareness month further enhances ACPMP’s critical mission.
