The ACPMP Research Foundation offers patient and physician educational programs with the goal of increasing the knowledge, understanding, and awareness of appendix cancer and pseudomyxoma peritonei.

Appendix Cancer/PMP Symposiums

The ACPMP Research Foundation partners with institutions treating appendix cancer and PMP to host educational symposiums. They offer a deep dive into the fundamentals, current treatments, and innovative research funded by YOUR donations.

Physician Scholarship & Grant Program

The ACPMP Research Foundation provides scholarships to for young physicians to attend relevant medical conferences and present their research, covering diverse areas of inquiry to drive new approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of appendix cancer. ACPMP has supported the Biennial International Congress on Peritoneal Surface Malignancies (hosted by the Peritoneal Surface Oncology Group International or PSOGI), the Annual Advanced Cancer Therapies Conference (hosted by the Society of Surgical Oncology), and the Mid-Atlantic Working Group Practitioner Meetings through this program.

Since 2022, ACPMP has also funded the SSO ACPMP Young Investigator Award focused on appendix cancer and PMP. New in 2025, ACPMP has also funded the Lisa Kurtz Luciano Appendix Cancer and PMP Clinical Investigator Award, named in memory of our founder.

  • Annual Advanced Cancer Therapies Conference – Physician Scholarships - 2015, 2019-2020, 2022-2025
    • $100,000 Lisa Kurtz Luciano Appendix Cancer and Pseudomyxoma Peritonei Clinical Investigator Award
      • 2025 Awardee: Oliver Eng, MD, University of California, Irvine for his research titled "Metabolic Therapy for Pseudomyxoma Peritonei."
    • $25,000 SSO ACPMP Young Investigator Award – 2022-2025
      • 2025 Awardee: Kimberly Kopecky, MD, MSCI, University of Alabama at Birmingham for her research proposal, "Aligning Pre-Operative Expectations with Postoperative Recovery for Patients Considering CRS/HIPEC: A Mixed Methods Intervention Development Study."
      • 2024 Awardee: Michael White, MD, University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center for his research proposal, "Spatial Transcriptomic and Microbial Analyses of Appendiceal Adenocarcinoma Understanding Molecular Subtype and Response to Immune Checkpoint Blockade."
      • 2023 Awardee: Thinzar Lwin, MD, City of Hope, for her research proposal, "Photoimmunotherapy of Appendiceal Cancers."
      • 2022 Awardee: Georgios Karagkounis, MD, for his research proposal, “Role of Peritoneal Mesenchymal Cells in Promoting Appendix Cancer Peritoneal Dissemination and Treatment Resistance.”
