BECK CELEBRATES 8TH BIRTHDAY BY SUPPORTING TEACHER & ACPMP

Beck Schroeder’s 8th birthday party looked very similar to how most other kids ring in another year — Balloons, cake, decorations, and friends. But one thing was noticeably missing, there weren’t any birthday gifts in sight. When Beck’s 8th birthday was around the corner, he decided to do something different. Beck, from Prior Lake, Minnesota, asked that his friends make donations to the Appendix Cancer Pseudomyxoma Peritonei (ACPMP) Research Foundation instead of bringing gifts.

“Please NO presents this year. Beck is asking for donations to appendix cancer research” read his birthday invitation.

Beck’s 8th birthday party theme was ‘Nerf Battle Xtreme’. With the recent news of his 2nd grade teacher, Meghan Blomquist’s, “nerf battle” with appendix cancer, Beck knew exactly what he was going to do to help!

Instead of toys and gifts, Beck asked that his friends donated to the ACPMP Research Foundation in honor of his teacher, Meghan Blomquist, who was recently recovering from her second CRS/HIPEC surgery (Read Meghan’s full survivorship story here).

His friends stepped up to fulfill that birthday wish. Beck and his friends raised an astounding $405 towards appendix cancer research! “Many families did their contributions online. However, we wanted to mail-in the remaining donations and show you a picture of these mini world changers in the making” — And we’re so happy you did!

While the classroom setting hasn’t quite been the same this year, Meghan still shares special moments with her students, including Beck, virtually.

“I thought I was going back to work in April, but I decided to stay out through the end of the year. On top of that, COVID-19 hit shortly after I extended my leave and it’s all distance learning now…  So, I’ve invited students to schedule individual online chat sessions with me if they want to.  It’s helping with feeling connected during COVID, as well as providing closure since when I left we all thought I’d be back.”

Thank you so much Beck for your selfless ask and thank you to all your friends that helped out! We hope you and your friends keep up the awesome work changing the world and fighting cancer!!!
