WHY WALK?
I am walking in partnership with The ACPMP Research Foundation to raise funds to support their mission to find a cure for Appendix Cancer. Our goal is to provide hope and inspiration for Appendix Cancer PMP patients/families currently fighting this disease, and to provide support to let them know that they are not alone.
We are also walking to honor the memory of those who we have lost due to Appendix Cancer and Pseudomyxoma Peritonei (PMP).
Please be sure to mark your calendars and join us for this event as we walk to make an impact in the fight against Appendix Cancer. Your participation and contributions will directly support vital research initiatives that will change lives.
SHARNELL’S STORY
On June 27, 2022, I received news that no one would ever want to hear… “ You have cancer” and not just cancer but “ Stage 4 Appendix Cancer”. That day I knew my life would change forever…My thoughts were that “My life would NEVER be what I had known it to be”. My first question was…Appendix Cancer??? …What is that??? I had never heard of this type of cancer. I had no known family history of it and was completely shocked.
Next even more questions ensued…
-How did I get it?
-Why wasn’t it detected especially before it progressed to Stage 4?
-What could I have done preventatively to avoid this? and/or
-How could I have prevented myself from getting it at all?
After having time to sit with the life-altering news, my doctor shared with me… According to research ”THERE IS NO CURE for this type of cancer” and it was expected that I would DIE from it…The only treatment was to slow down the spread of the cancer which would hopefully prolong my life as long as possible. WOW, again I had to process this grim news on top of the already devastating initial diagnosis.
Fast forward to today, I am extremely blessed that my story didn’t end as the little research had predicted. It is such a blessing that in August 2024 I will be 1 year CANCER FREE!!!!!
I am on a mission to educate and spread the word about this aggressive form of cancer that typically no one is aware of until it is too late, and to hopefully share some encouragement for those who have and will be affected by it. With this said, I am excited to partner with the Appendix Cancer PMP Research Foundation in organizing The Faith Walk Fundraiser to raise funds for Appendix Cancer education and research.
My goal is to ensure awareness and overall support for people and families affected by the life-altering diagnosis of Appendix Cancer. My belief is no one has to receive an initial death sentence due to a lack of research and a cure; they can also be given viable encouraging options to support the fight to live. Please help and join me in the cause!
