Why Light-Up Amber?
The objective of this campaign is to shine a light on this rare but increasingly prevalent cancer by illuminating landmarks nationwide and beyond. There are often only vague or sometimes even no symptoms of appendiceal cancer. And when there are symptoms, they are often missed or misdiagnosed as they frequently mimic those of hernias, ovarian or uterine masses, Crohn’s or other GI diseases, or are so vague that they are repeatedly dismissed. Many are not properly diagnosed until stage IV and difficult to treat. Appendix cancer is rare, but serious and on the rise. Awareness and early detection are critical. What is Appendix Cancer Awareness Month?
August is recognized as the official Appendix Cancer Awareness Month to increase awareness of this rare cancer and the need for MORE research to discover new treatments with the hope of one day finding a cure. The Appendix Cancer PMP Research Foundation (ACPMP) was established in 2008 to fund research and education to improve the diagnosis and treatment of appendix cancer. As part of our educational efforts, ACPMP is excited to promote August as the official awareness month for appendix cancer. Along with establishing amber as the official ribbon color for appendix cancer, having an established awareness month further enhances ACPMP’s critical mission.

Light Up Amber FAQ
I know a landmark in my area with a lighting program. How do I make sure that ACPMP has reached out to request that they light up?
Let us know what we're missing! Local community members often know about buildings, bridges, and public spaces with active light up programs before we do. If you know a landmark that we should reach out to, email us at lightup@acpmp.org.
I have secured a landmark. How do I get it listed?
If you've secured a landmark and have a confirmed illumination date, email lightup@acpmp.org with the details so we can add it to the list.
Why do some landmarks not have dates listed?
If a landmark does not have a date listed, the exact illumination date has not yet been confirmed. We will update the listing as dates are confirmed. All listed landmarks are expected to light up sometime during August.
Are you adding more landmarks?
Yes! New landmarks are added throughout August as confirmations come in. Check this page often for the latest updates.
I went to a landmark on the list and it did not light up. What happened?
While we work to confirm every participating landmark, illumination schedules can occasionally change due to technical issues, weather, maintenance, local events, or other circumstances outside ACPMP's control. If a landmark did not light up as expected, please let us know at lightup@acpmp.org so we can follow up and update our records.
I took photos! Where can I send them?
We'd love to see them! Whether you captured the landmark itself or snapped a selfie in front of it, your photos help us spread awareness for appendix cancer.
Please email your photos to lightup@acpmp.org.
You can also share them on social media by tagging @acpmpresearch on Facebook and @appendixcancerpmp on Instagram.
Is there an official hashtag that I should use on socials?
Yes! Please use #AmberForAppendixCancer when sharing your photos.
I want to get involved in the Light Up Subcommittee next year. What should I do?
We could not manage this campaign without the generosity of our volunteers. Reach out to us at lightup@acpmp.org to join.
