ABOUT THE APPENDIX CANCER PMP RESEARCH FOUNDATION
Founded in 2008, the ACPMP Research Foundation was created by a community of individuals affected by appendix cancer (AC), pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP).
The ACPMP Research Foundation is dedicated to:
1. Funding and supporting research to discover new treatments for appendix cancer with the hope of one day finding a cure for all.
2. Funding and supporting educational programs for health care professionals and patients/caregivers & families to keep current with the evolving science and to increase awareness about this rare cancer.
The Foundation also endeavors to support the appendix cancer community of patients and their caregivers by providing the latest and most accurate information.
CATALYST RESEARCH GRANT PROGRAM SUMMARY
The ACPMP Research Foundation Catalyst Research Grant provides up to $50,000 over two years.
The ACPMP Research Foundation Catalyst Research Grants Program is intended to support basic scientific, clinical, or translational research that is focused on appendix cancer and/or appendiceal pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP). This grant program aims to promote studies of the biology, epidemiology, genetics, pharmacology, immunobiology, or biochemistry of malignant epithelial neoplasms of the appendix that have the potential to yield diagnostic, therapeutic, or population-based advances for these rare cancers. These studies may focus on appendiceal mucinous neoplasms, appendiceal adenocarcinomas (including signet ring cell adenocarcinoma and goblet cell adenocarcinoma), and/or pseudomyxoma peritonei of appendiceal origin.
The ACPMP Research Foundation Catalyst Research Grants provide up to $50,000 over two years for costs associated with the proposed research project. Indirect costs are not allowed under this mechanism. Applications will be considered based upon the potential to translate research to extramural funding applications (e.g. NIH, DoD, FDA, corporate sponsors), additional pre-clinical studies and clinical trials and the innovation of the proposal aligned with the goals of the grant program.
Proposals are requested in, but not limited to the areas of: early detection and diagnosis of appendiceal tumors, appendix cancer genetics, development of novel model systems of appendix cancers, molecular and clinical determinants of appendiceal malignancies, and pre-clinical studies and/or clinical trials for appendix cancer-specific diagnostic/therapeutic targets.
$2,100,000 MILLION FOR RESEARCH
ACPMP has distributed over $2,100,000 in the form of 46 research grants. In addition, ACPMP also funds several Society for Surgical Oncology grants for research in appendix cancer and PMP. Finally, for the past several years, ACPMP has provided funding for numerous medical symposia where researchers convene and present cutting-edge research in these rare diseases.
APPLICATION PROCESS
This year, ACPMP is proud to fund two $50,000 Catalyst Research Grants through the National Organization for Rare Disorders, Inc. (NORD) Rare Disease Research Program.
