William (Billy) Patrick Willman 58, passed away on March 29, 2026. Billy wasn’t just a boat captain, but a true mariner who understood the quiet signals of the lakes and seas. His wisdom and skills excelled beyond his life on the water into the ways of the land. He was able to live each day as if it was his last and despite his battle show up for family and friends.
Those who knew Billy will not only remember his seamanship skills but his presence as well. As his supervisor said, “You don’t get to meet Billy you get to experience Billy.”
His life journey took a devastating turn on March 25, 2026, when he was diagnosed with appendiceal adenocarcinoma with signet ring and mucinous features, an aggressive and rare illness which was found during gallbladder surgery. On March 29, 2026, Billy died from complications of the disease which resulted in abdominal carcinomatosis with bowel obstruction. Billy’s courageous strength and bravery allowed him to face his short four-day battle with the illness with dignity, peace and even a sense of humor. As his body grew weaker his spirit stayed strong as he was able to hold on to those he loved and face the unknown without losing who he was.
He will not only be remembered for his work as a boat captain but for his sense of humor, resiliency and his love for music family and friends and most of all sailing.
Billy’s story doesn’t end with loss but with the lives he touched, in the memories of family and friends and each story told about him. He leaves a steady wake behind him that will serve as a reminder to live each day gratefully even in rough waters.
It is our hope that healing will come to all those who face this rare and aggressive disease and that research will continue to find diagnosis and treatment before the disease becomes so progressive and most of all that we continue to find hope.
