ACPMP Proudly Funds 2025 SSO Research Grants for Appendix Cancer & PMP

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, ACPMP is proud to fund two 2025 Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO) research grants focused solely on appendix cancer and PMP—including a significant new award in memory of our founder.

SSO advances cancer research by providing research funding through its competitive Clinical Investigator and Young Investigator Awards programs.

Introducing the Lisa Kurtz Luciano Appendix Cancer and Pseudomyxoma Peritonei Clinical Investigator Award ($50,000/year for two years)

This brand new $100,000 grant was established in memory of Lisa Kurtz Luciano, the late founder of ACPMP, whose passion and dedication continue to drive advancements in appendix cancer research. We are honored to announce the recipient of this grant:

Oliver Eng, MD, University of California, Irvine for his research, “Metabolic Therapy for Pseudomyxoma Peritonei.”

ACPMP is pleased to be able to offer this new and significant grant this year!

Young Investigator Award-Appendix Cancer Pseudomyxoma Peritonei ($25,000 for one year)

Congrats to Kimberly Kopecky, MD, MSCI, University of Alabama at Birmingham for her research titled “Aligning Pre-Operative Expectations with Postoperative Recovery for Patients Considering CRS/HIPEC: A Mixed Methods Intervention Development Study.”

Additionally, we congratulate the 8 researchers who received an ACPMP grant to attend the conference and present their research, covering diverse areas of inquiry to drive new approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of appendix cancer. Thank you to SSO and our Executive Director, Deborah Shelton, for their review and selection of recipients.

The ACPMP Research Foundation is honored to be a sponsor of the 2025 Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO) Advanced Cancer Therapies (ACT) Conference yet again and to continue our commitment to advancing research in appendix cancer and pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP).

We extend our gratitude to all clinicians and researchers tirelessly working to improve treatments for appendix cancer and PMP. Thank you to the Society of Surgical Oncology for organizing a highly engaging conference.
Finally, a heartfelt thank you to patients and caregivers for your ongoing courage, support, and generous donations, enabling us to continue funding educational programs and research grants in our mission to find a cure for appendix cancer and PMP.

Thank you for being part of this mission!
